A ribbon cutting officially commemorating Furniture Concepts’ return to 7 Cross Street in Malden took place in June 2014. Malden Mayor Gary Christenson, Ward 1 City Councillor Peg Crowe and City officials were on hand to show appreciation for business owners Kevin and Camille McMahon’s commitment to keeping their business in Malden. Furniture Concepts, established in 1994, is a custom furniture manufacturer and upholstery company providing quality, custom upholstery work at competitive prices. All furniture is built on site, from initial frame to the final piece of fabric.

All was going well until the winter of 2011, when under the weight of heavy snow, a portion of the Furniture Concepts roof began to collapse. Employees were not even aware there was a problem until one afternoon, when powering down machines and tools they heard thunderous creaking in the ceiling. The building was evacuated and the roof was reinforced with temporary posts. With more snow on the horizon, the operation was ultimately moved to a location in Woburn for two years while the roof was being rebuilt. At the same time they took the opportunity to renovate the entire building.

Veterans Services Director Kevin Jarvis thanked the McMahons and Furniture Concepts for generously providing the expertise and material, free of charge, to make all of Malden’s POW/MIA Chairs of Honor. For his support in remembering and honoring our veterans, Kevin McMahon was honored with a citation at this year’s Flag Day celebration.
